Town House Extention, Winchester
This project, in the Winchester Conservation Area, features a contemporary extension to the rear of the property alongside extensive internal remodelling. Christchurch Road is a semi-detached Victorian house with a poor existing internal layout that did not capitalise on the views of the large rear garden.
The owners wanted to remodel these internal spaces to create formal and informal living areas. We have achieved this by opening up the rear of the house to re orientate the views to the garden through a glass extension which becomes the kitchen and living area. This new contemporary glass box extension with a zinc roof was added to create the desired space and to encourage natural light. A glazed slot between the existing building and new extension allows light to penetrate the inner rooms. The emphasis that was placed on the importance of natural light, ensures that the entire space has a bright, contemporary feel throughout.
The entire house has been remodelled and the client’s collection of South American artefacts influenced the new interior spaces with the use of accent colour and textiles, resulting in a highly individual and unique home. The gardens were landscaped to create the ideal setting for the glazed contemporary extension. The glass box doors create the perfect flow between the modern interior and private outdoor space.
