St Cross, Winchester
The project provides an open plan extension to the ground floor living space of a substantial Victorian house in the conservation area of St Cross. The contemporary design is minimal in its execution with a simple rendered elevation and punched openings that address the garden and terrace.
The old and new is separated by a glazed slot that allows light into the depth of the existing floor plate whilst increasing the volume of the space. The oak floor creates continuity between the extension and the existing allowing a modern interior to co exist with the main house. The multi-functional area for eating, living and entertaining is focused on the kitchen at one end which becomes a theatrical back drop reflecting the activity and life of the space.
